About Us
Enchante Retrievers is a small hobby kennel located in South Florida. I have had Labradors since I was a teenager in Louisville, Kentucky. Rebell's Confederate Lady was a gorgeous black bitch that had been bred for field trials and hunting. Rebel injured her right knee at a very young age so we never pursued field trialing her. She loved the water and would head for the water no matter the weather anytime whether it was a pool, a river, a lake or the ocean. She would break ice to swim. When I married, she stayed with my parents and lived a long and happy life becoming quite the traveler as she accompanied them on various moves across the United States and Mexico.
As newlyweds in South Florida, my husband and I bought another black Labrador bitch that we named Rebell's Satin 'n Cinders. Satin didn't have a particularly noble pedigree but she was a willing partner in adventure and loved the water almost as much as Rebel. When she died at the ripe old age of 15, we decided that we wanted a yellow Labrador. We started looking for just the right one and Divine's Limited Edition found us. Belle was a retired show dog bred by Cindy and Burr Divine. Cindy responded to my emails with patience indicating that she didn't have any puppies at the time but she did have a young yellow bitch that she wasn't going to finish because her hips weren't perfect. Belle's show dog side was a complete change but I was smitten with this girl and bitten by the show dog bug. We had two small children by that time, so I shelved the bug for several years.
When Belle passed away, I started researching various kennel lines and found two that I was very interested in, located in another small hobby kennel in central Florida. Dr. Betty Mayer and Bob Mayer of Impulse Labradors have entrusted me with two of their bitches, Jazz and Passion. Betty and Bob Mayer have become very good friends and mentors as have Ron and Tigger Hahn who handled Passion in the show ring. I moved on from the Impulse lines and I co-own Eve with Gordon Sousa of Foothill Labradors, Arizona.
We want every Labrador or Flat Coat that is owned by or bred by us to be a quality animal that we are proud of. To that end, we believe in health testing; feeding quality food and training. Every Labrador or Flat Coat should have a job, whether it is "couch potato", a child's best friend, a veteran's service dog or a show dog. Puppies are raised in our home.
In early 2024, Ms Kathryn Leonhardt and Mr. Ray S. Mashler of Stormwatch Flat-Coated Retrievers made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They had bred Devon, GCH CH Flatcharm LL Cool Hayes at Stormwatch to Siri, CH Stormwatch The Goddess of Nature and she whelped 3 girls and 2 boys January 15th. On March 18th, on my way home from the Kentuckiana Cluster, I picked up the newest member of the Enchante Retriever family, "Sadie", Stormwatch Don't Rain On My Parade at Enchante. Having a flattie is different than a lab. Kathi and I are looking forward to so much fun on the Flat Coat ring and in other venues with this wonderful pup
Proud to be a member of the AKC's BRED WITH H.E.A.R.T. program. We were inspected July 14, 2015 by the AKC representative and surpassed the requirements. I am the AKC Delegate, current President and CoShow Chair of the Fort Lauderdale Dog Club, and a member of the Labrador Retriever Club (Parent Club), The Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America and the Mid Florida Sporting Dog Association.
